Julia Backhaus

Julia Backhaus (female) is in the final stage of her PhD research at ICIS, addressing the role of assumptions in transformative change efforts. Prior to her current position, she worked for three years at the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN), one of the leading knowledge institutes on renewable energy technologies, energy policies, market mechanisms and social changes accompanying transitions to a low-carbon future. She participated in and led research projects on the implementation of new technologies, demand-side management, behaviour change and sustainable lifestyles (see list of relevant projects). She is part of the steering committee of SCORAI Europe, a platform dedicated to sustainable consumption research and action. Julia holds an interdisciplinary BSc (cum laude) and an MPhil in Science and Technology Studies. Given her prior experience, Julia Backhaus will, in collaboration with her colleagues, lead WP4, the roll-out and monitoring of the ENERGISE Living Labs.
