D5.1 - Overview of collective conventions, governing frameworks and material systems

In January 2019, the Swiss team was delighted to submit the first deliverable which presents an overview of collective conventions, governing frameworks and material systems in relation to energy-using practices, with a focus on laundry and heating. Marlyne Sahakian and Patrick Naef, supported by Tania Perreira, and covering the eight European countries involved in ELL rollout, we found that while the policy and technological dimensions of energy distribution and usage have received much attention in the literature, the collective conventions that hold together everyday practices that use energy services are relatively under studied. There is a lack of comparable empirical data on the collective conventions around heating and laundry in and across European countries, to which our comparative analysis hopes to contribute. The results of this deliverable will be presented at this year’s eceee Summer Study, with a conference paper prepared by Marlyne Sahakian and Patrick Naef form the University of Geneva, joined by Charlotte Louise-Jensen (Aalborg University Copenhagen), Gary Goggins and Frances Fahy (National University of Galway Ireland) as co-authors.
