NUI Galway host two PhD interns in association with the H2020 SHAPE ENERGY project
NUI Galway recently hosted two PhD interns in collaboration with the H2020 SHAPE ENERGY and ENERGISE projects. Pasi Toivanen, from the University of Tampere, Finland, is currently completing a PhD, which focuses on the ”carbon lock-ins” of the Finnish energy system. His work is part of the EL-TRAN research project, funded by the Strategic Research Council of the Academy of Finland.
New book on social innovation and sustainable consumption
As part of the Routledge SCORAI Studies on Sustainable Consumption series, a new book will be published in December 2017 by a group of SCORAI Europe researchers also engaged in ENERGISE.

SCORAI, and its European partner, SCORAI Europe, both have regular newsletter which provide updates on sustainable consumption related events, research, papers and other issues of general interest.
ENERGISE mentioned in a TedX talk on powering communities
Dr Eimear Heaslip of ENERGISE was invited to give a TedX talk in the Town Hall Theatre on September 21st 2017. Her talk discussed energy in communities with the title "Powering Communites: Situating Energy Knowledges".
save@work: lesson learnt for changing energy use behaviour in public buildings
In September the save@work project was concluded in the 9 participating European countries. During the project, altogether 176 public buildings in Europe participated in an energy saving campaign and competition.
Future Visions of European Citizens led to Research Scenarios
GreenDependent Institute and ARC Fund both participate in the CIMULACT H2020 project which engaged several thousands of citizens and stakeholders in the co-creation of European research agendas based on real, validated and shared visions, needs and demands in 30 European countries.
ENERGISE lead Dr Frances Fahy received an award for research excellence
On September 4th (2017) Dr Frances Fahy received the NUIG Presidents award for research excellence. On Jun 28th Dr Frances Fahy Lead was selected as one of Enterprise Ireland’s 2017 Irish champions in EU research. She attended the awards ceremony in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.

ENERGISE Lead Coordinator as ERSCP board member
Dr Frances Fahy was appointed to the Board of the European Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production at the ERSCP General Assembly which took place on the 3rd October 2017 in Greece. Dr Fahy is the Lead Coordinator of the H2020 ENERGISE project and she will commence in the ERSCP role on January 1st 2018.
The mayor and the cleaner cooperate to save energy: the conclusion of the European save@work campaign
Teams from 8 European countries came together in Brussels during European Sustainable Energy Week to discover which of them managed to save the most energy following a year-long behaviour change, energy saving competition for public sector employee’s.
Urb@Exp project, led by Maastricht University, launches LAB kit for urban labs
On the 8th of June 2017, the LAB kit designed by the the URB@Exp project was launched in Graz, Austria. The toolkit is aimed at municipalities or other stakeholders in a city who are toying with the idea to set up an urban lab.

Closing the 6th season of the EnergyNeighbourhoods programme in Hungary: saving energy is relevant in disadvantaged households as well
With a community prize event GreenDependent closed the 6th season of its EnergyNeighbourhoods programme which supports households in making changes in their everyday energy use behaviour and practices with the objective of reducing consumption and avoiding CO2 emissions.

The EnergyNeighbourhoods programme, along with one of GreenDependent's previous programme - fostering and communicating sustainable lifestyles - Small Footprint, included in UNEP (United Nations Environmental Program) report published at the end of 2016.
